CUMBERLAND SQUARE BARRACKS, DEVONPORT

Cumberland Square Barracks were erected in 1757 at the southern end of "The Lines".  The buildings were of a single storey.

It was named in honour of William Augustus (1721-1765), who was created Duke of Cumberland in 1726.

The Square was occupied by regiments of infantry in 1824.
