MOUNT WISE BARRACKS or THE LABORATORY,
DEVONPORT

The Mount Wise Barracks has been described as: 'Consists of 21 detached buildings, enclosed by a high wall, and forming an oblong square.  Designed for use as workshops, for smiths, joiners, harness makers and other tradesmen employed in the manufactory of stores for a military expedition.  Neat houses for officers on eastern side.'
