CHARING CROSS BANK

The sole proprietor of the Charing Cross Bank was a Mr A W Carpenter.  It was not a bank in the true sense as it apparently encouraged deposits by offering high interest rates purely so that the money could be lent to borrowers.   It provided no other banking services. 

It opened a branch at number 78 Old Town Street, Plymouth.   It is not clear if this was the premises previously occupied by the Plymouth and Penzance Bank or whether that Bank was taken over in the process.

The Charing Cross Bank failed in October 1910, ruining many peoples lives in the process.
