DEVONPORT GENERAL BANK Originally formed by Messrs Thomas and Herbert James Husband in 1810 or 1813, it presumably acquired its title as the Devonport General Bank after the introduction of the Banking Copartnerships Act of 1826, by when Plymouth Dock had been renamed Devonport. Its premises were in Fore Street, Plymouth Dock, presumably at Number 24. As Messrs Husband and Son, it met all its commitments during the banking crisis of 1825 and survived, only to be acquired by the National Provincial Bank of England in 1839 as part of its national expansion.
