CAN YOU HELP, PLEASE?

KEYHAM'S "WESTERN INDEPENDENT" DELIVERY MAN

I am seeking to contact anyone who can tell me name of the man who used to deliver the "Western Independent" newspapers in Keyham Barton during the 1950/60s.

At that time shops did not open on Sundays and thus the only way that the local Sunday newspaper the "Western Independent" could be sold or delivered was by direct selling.  In the Keyham Barton area, and no doubt in other areas, this was done by a man with a wooden trolley, which he hauled up and down the avenues.

All that I know about him at the moment is that he apparently lived at the bottom of one on the avenues, but which one?  Mr Trevor Mitchell, now of Swindon, suggests that the man's name was Mr Scoble.  Does that ring any bells?  Could it perhaps have been the Mr Thomas A J Scoble who lived at 103b St Levan Road, right next door to Bernard Fleming, the newsagent on the corner of Warleigh Avenue?

Two others, Mr Peter Billing and Mr Paul Hobbs, have also suggested a Mr Bill (William Henry) Scoble of 16 Barton Avenue was the man, assisted by his son, Alan.  He apparently delivered fruit and veg around the area but I don't think my mother was one of his customers.

And Peter has added another name to the "pot": a Mr Honeywill, possibly of Melville Road.

If you are able to through any light on the identity of this gentleman, please reply to brianmoseley@plymouthdata.info.   Please do not enclose anything with your initial e-mail as unannounced messages with attachments are deleted without being read in case they contain a virus.

Thank you for your assistance.
