CHARITIES

MANLEY HART'S GIFT

Updated:  28 March 2011

The Hebrew Synagogue in Catherine Street, Plymouth, was endowed with many charitable gifts, one being Consols to the value of £94 5s given by Mr Manley Hart.

From entries in old minute books the Charity Commissioners discovered that the interest was to be given away annually on the Jewish New Year's Eve.  The income in 1907 amounted to £2 7s and this was combined with other Gifts totalling £100 11s 1d, which was then distributed to the Jewish poor.

In 1907 the Gift was vested in the names of Mr Aron Wolf, Mr Moses Rosenberg and Mr Solomon Zeferrett.  The officers of the Synagogue proposed to transfer all the Gifts to the Official Trustees of Charitable Funds and the trustees of this particular gift were in agreement.
