SOLOMON ALEXANDER HART'S GIFT
Mr Solomon Alexander Hart, who was born in Plymouth in 1806 and became a member of the Royal Academy, by his will dated October 30th 1876, proved at the Principal Registry on July 11th 1881, gave £1,000 to the Hebrew community in Plymouth, in the care of four trustees. In return they were to make a "Yizcar" for him annually on the Day of Atonement. Consols to the value of £900 were held in the names of Mr Eleazer Emdon (deceased by 1908); Mr Aaron Lyons; Mr Asher Levy; and Mr Herman London (also deceased by 1908). The annual income of £22 10s was paid to the treasurer of the Jewish Synagogue in Catherine Street, Plymouth. In 1908 the officers of the Synagogue proposed to transfer all the Gifts to the Official Trustees of Charitable Funds and the trustees of this particular gift were in agreement. Principal Source:
