CHARITIES

SARAH KNOWLES' GIFT

A Sarah Knowles bequeathed £30 to the deacons of the Treville Street Unitarian Chapel in her will dated October 21st 1854, which was proved at Exeter on March 22nd 1861.  It was to be distributed to the poor members of the Chapel.

In 1908 the sum was on deposit at Lloyd's Bank Ltd, in Plymouth.  By clause 19 of a scheme of regulation dated October 12th 1906 the income from this bequest was to be paid annually by the Bank to the Dorcas Society.
