RICHARD MORRIS'S GIFT
Mr Richard Morris, by his will dated November 8th 1844, proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury on February 8th 1845, gave £100 to be invested in Government securities by the trustees named in his will. The income was to be distributed in bread within the parish of Charles, Plymouth, on ever New Year's Day. It is not known what, if any, investment was actually made. The sum of £3 per annum was being paid to the vicar and churchwardens of Charles Church by a Miss Lucy Bartlett, of 3 Windsor Crescent, Mannamead, Plymouth, but all that she could tell the Charity Commissioners in 1905 was that it was in accordance with a request of her late grandmother and that provision had been made for the payment to continue after her own death.
