CHRIST CHURCH (ECUMENICAL CHURCH)

The Anglicans, Roman Catholics, Methodists and Baptists all joined together to organise the erection of Christ Church as an Ecumenical Church for all the worshippers of Estover, Leigham, Mainstone and Thornbury.

Located in Leypark Drive, Estover, the Church was opened and dedicated on Sunday September 7th 1980.  The Church was opened by the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, Councillor Ron King, and the dedication was performed by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Plymouth, Monsignor Cyril Restiaux.  The Bishop of Exeter, the Right Reverend Eric Mercer, represented the Anglicans; the Reverend Ron Cowley represented the Baptists and the Reverend Amos Cresswell represented the Methodist Congregation.

In the Blessed Sacrament Chapel is a large stained glass window depicting this Christian Unity.  It was designed and made by the Monks of Buckfast Abbey.
