MOUNT STREET CONGREGATIONAL MISSION ROOM
The Independent or Congregational Mission Room in Mount Street, Plymouth, was opened for divine worship on Monday February 15th 1858. It was run in connection with the Norley Chapel and in 1890 was known as the Sherwell Congregational Chapel Mission Room. It was stated that the cost of the site was £95 6s; the cost of the erection of the building was £260; and the cost of the architect, forms and gas installation amounted to almost £40. The domestic missionary in charge of the Mission Room was Mr Jasper, who, along with his wife, was credited with changing this area from one of 'oaths and revelry' to that of 'praise and prayer'.
