CHURCHES, CHAPELS AND PLACES OF WORSHIP  |  METHODIST CHAPELS

ALBERT ROAD METHODIST CHAPEL

Updated:  06 July 2011

The Albert Road Methodist Chapel was located on the south side of Albert Road, Devonport, at the junction with Charlotte Street and immediately opposite the Morice Town School.

It was built in what was then Navy Row, Morice Town, 1817 for the Reverend Francis Thoresby and known as the Salem Chapel but was taken over in 1866 by the United Methodist Free Church.

Destroyed during the Second World War, the compensation money received from the War Damage Commission was used to fund the construction of the Ernesettle Methodist Chapel, which was opened in February 1955.
