HORSE BUS SERVICES
MILLBAY STATION TO THE HOTELS
The South Devon Railway
from Laira Station in to
Plymouth's Millbay Station was opened on
Monday April 4th 1849.
A total of seven omnibuses met the trains at Millbay, their
routes being listed at the time as:
- The Royal Hotel Omnibus, from the Station to
Athenaeum-street, Alfred-place, Lockyer-street, Mulgrave-place to the Hotel, and vice
versa to the station.
- The Globe and Commercial Inn will take the following
districts alternate weeks:
- 1st District from the Station to the Globe, Bedford-street,
Old Town-street, Saltash-street, part of Tavistock-road, Portland-square, Cobourg-street,
York-street.
- 2nd District -- From the Station to Commercial Hotel, Old
Town-street, pass Post Office, Whimple-street, Bilbury-street, Tin-street,
Vauxhall-street, Exchange, and Parade.
- King's Arms -- From the Station direct to King's Arms Hotel,
via Old Town, Treville, and Bilbury Streets: -- Exeter Street, Brunswick Terrace, taking
in Plymouth east of Tavistock Road.
- Devonport and Stonehouse -- Two vehicles -- one from the
Royal Hotel, and another from Townshend's London Hotel, will run from the Station, through
Union Street, to Devonport.
- Stoke -- Reynold's Omnibus to Stoke.
