HOUSING AT ERNESETTLE
A new estate of council houses was planned for Ernesettle in May 1943. In May 1949, at the time of the Municipal Election, the Labour Council claimed that on the Ernesettle Estate provision had been made for 1,204 houses to accommodate approximately 4,000 people. Local employment for 1,000 people was being provided by Messrs Bush Radio Ltd. Work started in 1951/52. The Ernesettle Estate got the first of the licensed premises to be located on the housing estates to the north of the City. The Mayflower Inn on Lakeside Drive was opened at the end of 1957.
