The foundation stone of the first house on the Ham estate was laid by Alderman Miller on Saturday February 16th 1946. Planned in May 1943 as 117 acres for 660 houses plus an additional 40 acres for 450 houses at Box Hill. In May 1949, at the time of the Municipal Election, the Labour Council claimed that on the Ham Estate 462 houses had been completed and were occupied. At that it was stated that 530 houses were to be built in total.
