An estate of houses was planned for Honicknowle in May 1943, covering 75½ acres for 648 houses. In May 1949, at the time of the Municipal Election, the Labour Council claimed that on the Honicknowle and Woodland Estate 904 houses had been laid out, and 706 had been completed and were occupied. Local employment was to be provided by the factory of Messrs Berkertex.
