FOUNTAIN INN

Created:  03 February 2012

The Fountain Inn was situated in Fore Street, Plymouth Dock (Devonport) , in 1812, when the landlord was Mr John Sole.  [1]

The Fountain Inn was one of three public houses in a row just outside the Dockyard gate and all had a bad reputation so the good people of Devonport were pleased that they were acquired by Miss Agnes Weston in 1887/88 and demolished to make way for the extension of the Royal Sailors' Rest.  However, as was pointed out at the time, there were still four other public houses and a pawnshop immediately opposite.  [2]
