NORRINGTON FOUNTAIN

The Norrington Fountain on the Hoe was unveiled in June 1881 and is inscribed: ~ Presented to the town of Plymouth by Charles Norrington in memory of his wife, Marianne Norrington, 1881.  Thirsty and ye gave me drink. ~  

Maps and photographs show that this fountain was originally on the site presently covered by the bowling green near Osborne Terrace.

Charles Norrington was Mayor of Plymouth in 1864 and again in 1881.  Mrs Norrington died in early 1881 and he died in June 1900.

Mr Charles Norrington had previously donated a carillon and chimes to Saint Andrew's Church in memory of his son, Mr C H Norrington.
