MOTOR BUS ROUTE "81" PLYMOUTH to HONICKNOWLE and St BUDEAUX On Monday May 13th 1929 the Western National Omnibus Company formally took over the National Omnibus Company's service 204 from Plymouth to Crownhill, Honicknowle and St Budeaux. From Wednesday January 1st 1930 it became Western National's service 81. The service ran from Plymouth's St Andrew's Cross through Old Town Street, Tavistock Road, North Hill, Mutley Plain, and Hartley to Crownhill and on to the Honicknowle Village, before going on to terminate at the St Budeaux Inn at Higher St Budeaux. All except the first weekday journey (7.15am) ran through to St Budeaux. The 7.15am terminated at Honicknowle, from where it returned at 7.35am. The 7.30am journey was due to arrive at St Budeaux at 7.55am, returning at 8.05am. There were more direct services from St Budeaux to Plymouth. The last complete journey left St Andrew's Cross at 10.10pm but on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays there was one at 10.50pm, which arrived at Honicknowle at 11.10 and St Budeaux at 11.15pm. It immediately departed for Plymouth, leaving Honicknowle at 11.20pm and Crownhill at 11.25pm. Adult single fares from Plymouth in the winter of 1935-36 were: to Whitleigh Terrace, Crownhill, 4d; to Honicknowle Village or Little Dock Lane, 6d; to the St Budeaux Inn, 7d. The adult return fare from Plymouth to St Budeaux was 10d. As from Thursday October 1st 1942 Western National service 81 became Plymouth Joint Services route 81.
