MOTOR BUS ROUTE "82" and "82A" PLYMOUTH or DEVONPORT On Monday May 13th 1929 the Western National Omnibus Company formally took over the National Omnibus Company's service 205 from Plymouth to Tamerton Foliot. From Wednesday January 1st 1930 it became Western National's service 82. For the benefit of workers at the Royal Dockyard, some journeys were made as the 82A from Tamerton to Milehouse, Stoke and Devonport. This service commenced running on Wednesday April 1st 1931. The service ran from Plymouth's St Andrew's Cross through Old Town Street, Tavistock Road, North Hill, Mutley Plain, and Hartley to Crownhill, then along the B3373 past Whitleigh Lodge, Brookland Cottage, Whitleigh Cross, Looseleigh Cross (Looseleigh Lane), Cann House and terminated at Tamerton Foliot. The 82A to Devonport followed the same route from Tamerton Foliot as far as Manadon Lodge and then took the road through Peverell Corner, Milehouse and Stoke. During the winter service for 1935-36 the first bus left Plymouth's St Andrew's Cross at 7.45am, arriving at Tamerton at 8.10am. The first 82A left Tamerton Foliot at 6.15am and was due to arrive at Fore Street, Devonport, at 6.45am. The vehicle for this service was stationed overnight at Tamerton, having worked out as the 10.55pm from Plymouth the previous night. The normal frequency was every hour but on Tuesdays and Saturdays, which were market days in Plymouth, there were extra buses. The 82A service returned from Devonport Royal Dockyard at 5pm Mondays to Thursdays, 4.30pm on Fridays and 12 Midday on Saturdays. Adult single fares from Plymouth during the winter of 1935-36 were: to Crownhill Barracks, 4d; to Whitleigh Cross, 5d; to Looseleigh Cross, 6d; to Tamerton Foliot, 7d. The adult return fare for the whole journey was 11d. The adult single fare from Tamerton Foliot and Whitleigh Cross to the Royal Dockyard was 7d. Special Workmen's Tickets were available for 3s 6d for 12 journeys (i.e. one working week of six days). As from Thursday October 1st 1942 Western National services 82/82A became Plymouth Joint Services routes 82/82A.
