MOTOR BUS ROUTE "85" PLYMOUTH to CROWNHILL, YELVERTON and On Monday May 13th 1929 the Western National Omnibus Company formally took over the National Omnibus Company's service 207A from Plymouth to Yelverton and Milton Combe. From Wednesday January 1st 1930 it became Western National's service 85. The service ran from Plymouth's St Andrew's Cross through Old Town Street, Tavistock Road, North Hill, Mutley Plain, Crownhill, Roborough, Yelverton Golf Links, Yelverton Cross Roads, Crapstone and Buckland Monachorum (Institute) before terminating at Milton Combe. During the winter timetable for 1935-36 the first bus left Plymouth at 7am and was due to arrive at Milton Combe at 7.50am. It departed for Plymouth at 7.55am and was due to arrive at St Andrew's Cross at 8.45am. The 7.30am departure from Plymouth called at Buckland Monachorum Church on its way to Milton Combe and on its way back to Plymouth at 8.40am. The 2.40pm and 3.40pm departures did likewise on the outward journey but only the 4.40pm from Milton Combe did so on the inward journey to Plymouth. The 9.40pm outward and 10.50pm return journeys also covered both Milton Combe and Buckland Monachorum. The adult single fares from Plymouth during the winter of 1935-36 were: to Crownhill Barracks, 4d; to Yelverton Cross Roads, 1 shilling; to Crapstone, 1/2d; and to Milton Combe, 1/3d. Adult return fares were 1s 10d to Crapstone and 2 shillings to Milton Combe. As from Thursday October 1st 1942 Western National service 85 became Plymouth Joint Services route 85.
