MOTOR BUS ROUTE "91" PLYMOUTH to COLEBROOK, LEE MOOR, WOTTER On Monday May 13th 1929 the Western National Omnibus Company formally took over the National Omnibus Company's service 211A from Plymouth to Shaugh Prior. From Wednesday January 1st 1930 it became Western National's service 91. The service ran from Plymouth's St Andrew's Cross through Old Town Street, North Hill, Alexandra Road, Old Laira Road, Crabtree, Marsh Mills, Colebrook, Loughtor Mills, Torry Combe, Lee Moor, Wotter and the Inn at Shaugh Prior. During the winter season of 1935-36 the first bus left Plymouth's St Andrew's Cross at 6.20am and took an hour for the journey to Shaugh Prior. After a 35-minute break it left again at 7.55am, arriving back in Plymouth an hour later. The following two journeys, at 9.15am and 11.15am, ran only as far as Wotter but the afternoon trips, at 1.15pm, 4.25pm and 6.45pm went the full distance. On Tuesdays and Fridays that was the last trip from Plymouth but on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays the last bus left Plymouth at 9pm, returning from Shaugh prior at 10.05pm. On Saturdays there was an additional journey at 10.45pm as far as Wotter, with the return working getting back into Plymouth at 12.33 the following morning. There were also special buses at 8.25am from Shaugh Prior and at 4.05pm from Plympton School for school children. Adult single fares from Plymouth for the winter of 1935-36 were: to Colebrook, 5d; to Newnham Lodge, 6d; to Loughtor Mills, 7d; to Torry Combe, 1s 1d; to Lee Moor. 1s 2d; to Wotter, 1s 4d; and to Shaugh Prior, 1s 6d. The return fare to Lee Moor was 2 shillings and to Shaugh Prior, 2s 6d. As from Thursday October 1st 1942 Western National service 91 became Plymouth Joint Services route 91. |
