MOTOR BUS ROUTE "I" Plymouth's motor bus service "I" was approved in September 1926 and started on Monday Monday January 31st 1927. It followed an unusual cross-town route starting at Hartley, then Mutley Plain, Ford Park, Pennycomequick, Staddon Terrace, North Road, Cecil Street, King Street, Bedford Street, Old Town Street, Tavistock Road, Mutley Plain and back to Hartley. This was changed slightly, presumable later in 1927, as by 1928 it was running from Hartley, Higher Compton Road, Mutley Plain, Ford Park Road, Pennycomequick, and North Road to Manor Street only. A couple of minor diversion took place during 1931 when the service used Hillside Avenue to get between Ford Park and Pennycomequick and shortly afterwards the service was diverted along North Road while Cemetery Road was being resurfaced. Under the new route licensing regulations that came into force on Wednesday July 8th 1931, route I was officially known as H.1305 and was licensed to run from Manor Street, through North Road and Ford Park Road to Hartley. A couple of variations were also licensed: I1 (H.1341) from Pennycomequick through Cemetery Road and Tothill Road to Cattedown; and the I2 (H.1342) from Pennycomequick through Cemetery Road and Mutley Plain to Hartley. These two would have provided connections at Pennycomequick with the trams from Devonport to Stuart Road. There was also an I3 (H.1343), which was to run from Patna Place, North Road, via Millbridge and Fore Street to North Keyham. In November 1932 the sanction of the Western Traffic Commissioners was sought to discontinue route I and it apparently ceased at the end of that year.
