MOTOR BUS ROUTE "N" Plymouth's motor bus service "N" is thought to have commenced running on Friday December 30th 1927. Its route was from the Barbican through St Andrew's Street, Tavistock Road, Mutley Plain, Higher Compton Road to Hartley. The service was short-lived and was withdrawn in 1931, being replaced in part by a new route 1 running between the Theatre Royal and Hartley ("Sungates"). The section between Higher Compton Road and Collings Park was covered by re-routing the service K. Under the new route licensing regulations that came into force on Wednesday July 8th 1931, route N was officially known as H.1348 and was licensed to run from Salisbury Road through Cobourg Street and Fore Street to North Keyham, clearly as a Dockyard "Special". Also licensed were the N1 (H.1349), from St Jude's, via Alma Road and Marlborough Street to Fore Street; and the N2 (H.1350) from St Jude's through Old Town Street and Westwell Street to the Royal Naval Victualling Yard at Stonehouse.
