PLYMOUTH HERALD AND DEVONSHIRE FREEHOLDER When Mr R Bond, of Whimple Street, Plymouth, the owner of the Devonshire Freeholder and General Advertiser, bought some new and better type he decided it provided an opportune moment to include in a new name a clearer indication of where the newspaper was published. Thus from Saturday January 7th 1826 the Devonshire Freeholder and General Advertiser became the Plymouth Herald and Devonshire Freeholder: or West of England General Advertiser. The newspaper ceased publication with issue volume VI number 347 on May 31st 1828. The story that Mr Bond at that time removed the newspaper to Exeter as it was a more convenient place in which to gather news is at yet unconfirmed.
