NEWSPAPERS

PATRIOT, OR PALLADIUM OF BRITISH LIBERTY

Within a month of the closure of the Plymouth Gazette in 1820, the first issue of the Patriot, or Palladium of British Liberty appeared.

Published by Mr R Bond of Whimple Street, Plymouth, it spoke on behalf of civil, religious and political liberty and the freedom of the press.

It ceased to be published after only eleven months although Mr Bond went on to start the Devonshire Freeholder, which he soon moved to Exeter.
