PASSENGER TRAIN FARES - MAY 1848

The following table shows the passenger train fares charged on Ordinary Trains from Plymouth Station for the period of May 1854:

Totnes 4s 10d 3s 4d 1s 9d Cost 1/3rd more than the equivalent single fare. Cost 1/3rd more than the equivalent single fare.

Return tickets were not issued to third class passengers and were 'available for use on the South Devon Railway line on the same day only'.  Return tickets were not transferable.

Third class fares were calculated at the rate of 1d per mile; 2nd class were less than 2d per mile; first class were less than 3d per mile.
