SUTTON HARBOUR GWR BRANCH (BRWR)

CLOSURE

Following the closure of the British Railways Souhtern Region Branch to Sutton Harbour in 1957, all remaining traffic was concentrated on this one.

Apart from coal traffic, the docks at Millbay dealt with most of the freight traffic arriving at Plymouth by sea so it is doubtful if any thing very much ventured down the branch even after 1957.

It was officially closed to goods traffic on December 31st 1973.  The gates from the Sutton Road (Thistle Park) Level Crossing remained in situ for many years and have been incorporated into the entrance to the Bramell-Allen car showroom complex.
