PLYMOUTH ROADS AND STREETS

Location

East Street ran westwards from Old Town Street to Cornwall Street.  It was lost in the rebuilding of Plymouth after the Second World War.

Principal buildings

The principal buildings on the south side of East Street in 1890 were:

  • the Morley Hotel.

and on the north side:

Principal businesses

The principal businesses on the south side in 1890 were:

  • George Firks, bookseller; Isaac Edgcombe, grocer; James Stephens, baker; Alfred William Bryant, umbrella manufacturer; and Popham, Radford & Company, drapers.

and on the north side (returning from Cornwall Street):

  • J F Alford, game and poultry mecrhant; Joseph Butland, tailor; Cornelius Cooper, bulb and seed merchant; and Rowse & Company, ironmongers.
