East side (from number 41 Whimple Street towards The Parade):

  • 1 - Miss Elizabeth Ledden, dress maker;

  • 2 - Miss Harriett Bowden, dress maker;

  • 3 - Thomas Bowden, grocer;

  • 4 - NL;

  • 5 - Mrs Mary Matthews, hairdresser;

  • 6 - William Rockey or Rockhey, victualler, Vintry Inn;

  • 7-8 - N Bidgood & Company, curriers and leather merchants;

  • Here was Stillman Street

  • 15 - Simon Hambly Colwill, grocer (see also number 40);

  • 16 - George Baker, rag merchant, and Mrs Elizabeth Choake, stay and corset maker;

  • 17 - NL;

  • 18 - John Bickle, shopkeeper;

  • 19 - NL;

  • 20 - William Stewart, victualler, Naval Reserve Inn;

  • 21 - NL;

  • 22 - Henry Shapcott, furniture dealer;

  • 23 - NL;

  • 24 - Mrs Mary A Collins, clothier;

  • 25 - Alfred Whiting, shoe maker (see also number 53);

  • 26 - Mrs Ann May, shopkeeper;

  • 27 - Charles John Tozer, stationer and news agent;

  • Here was Woolster Street

  • 28 - George H Norris, beer house and eating house;

  • 29 - John Edward Way, clothier and outfitter;

  • 30 - Mrs Maria Clive, confectioner;

  • 31 - Drake and Cook, boot makers;

  • 32 - Charles Simpson, fishmonger.

West side (from The Parade towards Whimple Street):

  • 34 - James W G Boles, beeer house;

  • 35 - NL;

  • 36 - William Aggett, grocer;

  • 37 - C Reeves & Company, cork manufacturers, with Mr Colston Reeves living over;

  • 38 - Joseph Jacobs, furniture dealer;

  • 39 - Samuel Roskelly Williams, chemist and druggist;

  • Here was Notte Street

  • 40 - Simon Hambly Colwill, grocer (see also number 15: he lived at 8 Bedford terrace.)

  • 41-42 - John Cole, basket and hamper maker;

  • 43 - NL;

  • 44 - Leonard Hillman, baker;

  • 45 - NL;

  • 46 - William Hacker, bath chair proprietor, and Mrs Mary Welby, boarding house;

  • Here was entrance to Nicholl's Court

  • 48 - Mrs Elizabeth Elliott, second-hand clothes dealer;

  • 49 - Misses Amelia Ann and Angelina Arnold, shopkeepers;

  • 50 - John Wallen, shopkeeper;

  • 51 - George Dolbear, shopkeeper;

  • 52 - NL;

  • 53 - Alfred Whiting, boot maker (see also number 25);

  • 54 - NL;

  • 55 - George Norman, shopkeeper;

  • 56 - Mrs Mary Ann Cole, butcher;

  • (57) - Plymouth Soup Society's kitchen;

  • Here was Palace Street

  • 59 - James Nankivell  Brown, victualler, Napoleon Inn;

  • 60 - Mrs Emma Backwill, shopkeeper;

  • Here was Middle Lane

  • 61 - John Lethbridge, dairyman;

  • 62 - Herbert Ledden, dining rooms;

  • (63) - Relieving Office;

  • 64 - Alfred L Rickard, joiner, and Mrs Fanny Hooper, picture framer;

  • Here was Higher Lane

  • 65 - Henry Michael Toogood, tobacconist;

  • 66 - Mrs Hannah Jane Avent, eating house;

  • 67 - Henry Matthews, baker;

  • 68 - NL;

  • 69 - Zephania Murton, second-hand clothes and cutlery dealer, and Frederick Murton, hairdresser.

NL = Addresses not listed.  These were usually let on short-term tenancies and therefore not listed in street directories.
