The Plymouth Subscription Classical and Mathematical School was founded in 1822. It was a private school. This became known as the New Grammar School, resulting in the old Grammar School re-titling itself as the Corporation Grammar School. In 1866, the Plymouth Subscription Classical and Mathematical School was amalgamated in to the Corporation Grammar School.
