PLYMOUTH SCHOOL BOARD

SUBJECTS OF INSTRUCTION - BOYS' SCHOOLS

The following were the subjects of instruction in infant schools run by the Plymouth School Board in around 1898 to 1900:

Elementary Subjects, Article 15 (A) to be taken throughout the School as set out in Schedule 1 of the Board of Education Code Reading
Writing
Arithmetic (including Mental Arithmetic and Rapid Addition)
Recitation of Poetry
Singing by Note
Varied Occupations
Object Lessons
Class Subjects, Article 15 B (i), to be taken by Classes throughout the School as set out in Schedule 2 of Board of Education Code Elementary Science
Geography
History (as an alternative)
Specific Subjects to be taken by individual children in Standards 5, 6 and 7 Euclid and Mensuration
Mechanics
Physics
Pitman's System of Shorthand
Navigation
Horticulture
Subjects under Science and Art Department Drawing
Woodwork
Additional Subjects Scripture
Military Drill
