FORD SECONDARY MODERN SCHOOL
Ford Secondary Modern School was originally for girls only and was located in Cambridge Road, Ford, in the red brick building that had formerly been the Cambridge Road Board School, which was part of the Ford Board School. By 1955 the girls had been joined by boys and the Headmaster was Mr G H Smart MA. In April 1960 work started on the construction of new premises on the eastern side of Melville Road. It cost £120,000 plus a further £10,000 for fittings and furniture. The new premises were constructed of steel and reinforced concrete, faced with brick and cedar cladding. The School was able to accommodate 450 pupils and was opened in January 1962. Ford Secondary Modern School closed in the middle of June 1990, two months after an arson attack, and was demolished during July and August. Sources:
