KER STREET PRIMARY SCHOOL, DEVONPORT

The first school to be opened by the Devonport Education Authority following the introduction of the Education Act 1902 was Ker Street Infant School.

It was built on the site of the old Calvinist Chapel, which just before its demolition in around 1902/3 had been the Salvation Army Temple.  The LEA bought the site freehold for £740 plus a further £20 for easements.  Messrs Hine and Odgers designed the new school, which was erected by Messrs Lethbridge at a cost of £2,093.  It was opened by Alderman W Littleton, Chairman of the Devonport Education Committee, on Friday January 1st 1904.

In 1935 the Headmistress was Miss E Barnes.

The Headmaster Of Ker Street Primary School in 1955 was Mr D D Humphreys.

Ker Street Infant School was closed in 1981/82.
