PLYMOUTH SCHOOLS

KING'S TAMERTON SECONDARY MODERN SCHOOL

The construction of King's Tamerton Senior Elementary School in Trevithick Road, Higher St Budeax, Plymouth, was started in July 1939 but less than a month later the Second World War was declared and the site was requisitioned by the Admiralty.

As a result of the new classifications announced in the Education Act 1944, it became King's Tamerton Secondary Modern School.

Although the School is stated to have reopened in 1947, when Mr George Tomlinson, the Minister of Education, visited the site on Wednesday April 27th 1949 it was reported that the School buildings were 'now being restored.'

It was a mixed school and the first Headmaster was Mr Foster Cooper BSc, who remained at the School until his retirement in 1968.

King's Tamerton Secondary Modern School was renamed Tamarside Comprehensive School in 1989/90.
