SAINT PETER'S ROMAN CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL

Saint Peter's Roman Catholic Primary School is situated in Brentford Avenue, Whitleigh, Plymouth.  It is a voluntary aided school.

The foundation stone was laid in September 1955.  [1]

It was blessed and officially opened by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Plymouth, the Right Reverend Monsignor Cyril Restieaux on Monday March 25th 1957.  [1]

The School had been opened to pupils some six months previous and 200 children had been admitted.  The building had seven classrooms and the greater part of the cost of £45,000 had been met by voluntary donations with St Peter's Parish.  The head teacher was Miss Gladys Duggan.  Also present were Alderman Leslie F Paul, deputy chairman of the City's Education Committee; Doctor Andrew Scotland, the Director of Education; and the Parish Priest, the Reverend Michael McSweeney.  [1]

Mr R Fraser was the architect and Messrs Pearn Brothers Ltd were the contractors.  [1]
