The St Mary's Roman Catholic Secondary Modern School was situated in Anstis Street, Plymouth, close to the Roman Catholic Cathedral. Bishop Barrett set up the secondary school in 1927 in temporary accommodation within the existing boys' school. It accepted senior pupils from St Boniface, St Joseph and Holy Cross Schools. In January 1931 the School moved in to its own premises. The School became St Mary's Secondary Modern School from April 1st 1945, following the introduction of the Education Act of 1944. Mr W Robertson BA was the Headmaster in 1955. St Mary's Roman Catholic Secondary Modern School was closed in 1965 when it was replaced by the brand new Bishop Vaughan Secondary Modern School at Crownhill.
