NEW PALACE THEATRE OF VARIETIES

FINAL CLOSURE

Messrs New Palace Theatre (Plymouth) Ltd, who were managing Plymouth's New Palace Theatre of Varieties, suddenly ceased trading on Tuesday May 27th 1980 and put the Theatre and its contents up for sale.

It did reopen for a further time on Saturday May 16th 1981 with Danny La Rue in Review.

The New Palace Theatre finally closed in 1983 and became "The Academy" disco.

By 1994 the building, which had a Grade II* listing, was owned by Mr Graham Blow of Boardmans Farm, Regents Avenue, Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, FY8 4AG.  It was later confirmed by news articles in the local press that he was unable to raise funds from Government organisations to assist in the regeneration of the building.

The present ownership situation is not known.
