TRIUMPHAL ARCH, PLYMPTON

The Triumphal Arch in Plymbridge Lane, Plympton, Plymouth, has long been a sorce of curiousity.  It is located at National Grid reference SX 527577.

Although the Triumphal Arch is officially recorded as having been constructed around 1783 for Mr John Parker of Saltram House as an eye-catcher to be seen from the house, the auther was told by an informed source many years ago that it was constructed for the marriage of a female member of the Parker family.  Unfortunately the origin of that claim has not been found.

It is a Schueduled Ancient Monument and a Grade II* Listed Building.
