MONTAGU BROWNLOW PARKER (1878-1962) - 5th EARL OF MORLEY (1951-1962)
The 3rd Earl of Morley had four children and both the eldest males inherited the title in turn. Upon the death of his older brother, Edmund Robert Parker, 4th Earl of Morley, in October 1951 the title of 5th Earl of Morley passed to Montagu Brownlow Parker. Born October 13th 1878, Montagu was educated at Eton College and later became a Captain in the Grenadier Guards. He was wounded in the South African War, and mentioned in despatches five times in the Great War, during which he was also awarded the French Croix de Guerre. In peacetime he became a director of both Messrs English Clays Ltd and Messrs English Clays, Lovering, Pochin & Company Ltd, of Saint Austell, Cornwall. The last member of the family to live in Saltram House, Montagu Brownlow Parker, 5th Earl of Morley, died on April 28th 1962, whereupon the title passed to the eldest son of his youngest brother, The Honourable John Holford Parker, who had himself passed away on February 27th 1955. Thus John Saint Aubyn Parker, of Pound House, Yelverton, became the 6th Earl of Morley. Sources:
