PLYMOUTH ROYAL MENDICITY SOCIETY

Workhouses were not the only bodies that helped or maintained the poor.  The Plymouth Royal Mendicity Society was established in 1870 for the relief of the deserving poor. 

In 1878 the honorary secretary was Mr Hamilton Whiteford.
